Truck Accident Cases in Maryland

 
  The best thing about a truck accident case is that there is generally at least a million dollar insurance policy to cover the damages the plaintiff has suffered. I have tried truck accident cases. Each one has settled for in excess of six figures. Now that does of course mean that my client had serious injury. You are compensated for the injury sustained. However, having said that, most often the insurance companies do not like to have their client defendant truck driver in front of the jury. Also, they always fear the large judgment that eats up the million dollar policy. So there is a good incentive for them to settle. Simple risk elimination. Discovery in truck accident cases is a little different then your normal auto accident case. One of the most unusual truck accident cases I had in litigation involved an accident on 695N. During deposition it is uncovered that the driver had his three year old son in the truck with him. Ok, that sounds a little irresponsible. Here you are driving a huge 18 wheeler with your three year old son as your co-pilot. The driver freely admitted he was weaving in and out of traffic. The scene was making me salivate. So naturally, I asked why he felt it was necessary to weave in heavy traffic, he stated the traffic in front of him was traveling too slow. It was at about that point I saw opposing counsel fall out of his chair and crawl under the conference table. Independent witnesses at the scene stated the truck had changed lanes and impacted my client's car forcing her off the road, and up the embankment where her car flipped over. My client's deposition testimony locked the case in for a very good settlement. I will tell you right now, properly prepared deposition testimony is a must if you expect to put heat on the defendant and forward the case toward a favorable resolution. My client testified that at that very moment her car flipped she was praying to God to save her from death.
